When bacteria cause an infection, our immune system attempts to isolate and kill them. In response, bacteria fight back using molecular weapons we call “toxins”. Bacteria can also produce toxins that kill other bacteria. This is important when infecting complex environments like the gut. We study how some of these toxins work. Our ultimate goal is to improve the treatment of bacterial infections..
